JazzFest 2010

Jill and Dan Johnson, Laughter Yoga TrainersEvery July, for the past 19 years, we've had a jazz and blues festival in our city, Sioux Falls, SD, called JazzFest. This year it included Thursday night, as well as Friday night and all day Saturday. And, we’re proud to say, we were there all three days. The motto of JazzFest is “It’s hot, be cool!” - and boy was it ever!! Hot temps and the coolest music this side of Louisiana.

Can you tell us what music moves you? What makes you feel as if you’ve peeled open your heart and soul to God, nature, a cold brewsky and good friends? Well, we can attest that this past weekend we were singing, dancing and laughing at the feet of Marcia Ball, roadhouse blues artist from Louisiana.

Marcia BallDan and I had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Ball at JazzFest in New Orleans a few years ago and vowed that we wouldn’t pass up this chance to hear her again in our own backyard. She had us laughing, singing along, and dancing some zydeco. And when she was singing the blues of the levees break in New Orleans, we had tears streaming down our cheeks.

We love summer and the opportunity to grab joy around every corner during these short few months. The memories of the hot temps and cool music at JazzFest is always one of our favorites that we file away and pull out in the cold months of January and February. Check out the festivals in your city and soak up the summer!!

Very good, very good, yay!!
