Living Healthy Butterfly Lives

Dan Johnson, Laughter CoachWe had an incredible time laughing at the South Dakota Community and Family Extension Leaders Convention on September 18, 2010. The mission of SDCFEL is “joining together to broaden our horizons by maintaining quality family life through education and leadership.”

The theme for the state convention this year was “Break Out of Your Cocoon!” All the presentations had to do with butterflies, and our laughter session was called “Laughter Yoga - Living Healthy Butterfly Lives”. We had such a great time with these ladies! We were lucky enough to dine with them before our laughter session so we got the chance to know the women at our table quite well. There was lots of giggles already flowing by the time we got them up and ‘officially’ laughing with us.

Library Laughter!Keeping with the butterfly theme we helped them break out of their cocoon with laughter yoga by learning how to laugh for no reason. Hahaha! Some of our laughter exercises were Aloha Laughter, Snicker Bubbles Laughter, Chicken Laughter and Laughter Snacks. We spread our butterfly wings with deep breathing in between the exercises and spread laughter and joy throughout the room. We were the last event for the convention and our goal was to have them leave full of positive thoughts, a relaxed body and joy in their hearts.

Dan Johnson, Laughter CoachHelen Sweeter, the Co-chair, sent us a letter saying, “We sincerely appreciate the valuable information you shared with the members at the convention about the need for relaxation and laughter in our lives. We know the women truly were having a ‘hilarious’ time with the laughter exercises, and I’m sure everyone rested well that night.” The organization purchased our Laugh for the Health of It! CD for each county represented so they could take the information home to their local chapters and share the experience of laughter in their own communities. What a great idea!

A big thanks to all the amazing ladies who organized the convention! You are amazing!!
